Classic Style: The Graduate
The timeless look of a 1967 East coast Ivy graduate meets the summer of love's questioning of traditional values. This film to me resembles a new point of view and a traditionalist point of view along with the questioning of the social values of the time. From Columbia to Berkley the regimental ties were going tye-dyed... I think this film still embodies that classic look similar to Take Ivy and then it questions everything with a groundbreaking rebelious curve. At the dawn of the sexual revolution this film is a classic.
Film Friday: Michael Jackson Motown 25th
A man that defined a generation and inspired countless others. Two RIP's in two days, what a week. Michael Jackson debuted the moonwalk in this performance and in doing so he influenced and changed dancing and performance, making history. He moved like water and appeared almost inhuman and cartoon-like... Wearing white socks and penny loafers... His red jacket would be an icon of the 80's along with his sequined glove and countless other signature pieces. His jackets from the late 80's and 90's strike an eerie similarity to the ones popular nowadays worn ever so often by hot French editors and models made by fashion house Balmain. As a popular icon of our time Michael Jackson will be missed and always remembered.
Filson Black Label

Only in Europe and Japan… Filson Black Label was one of my favorites at Pitti Uomo last week. A quick collection very American classic inspired (obviously) and derived from the regular Filson brand. All produced and made in Italy with quality fabrics and more. When I spoke with the Italian manufacturers and told them I was impressed and love the aesthetic as well as the look they were down right flattered because to them creating a collection for such a staple American brand and hearing an American tell them he loved it that meant they did their job correctly and was an honor for them… Very much like what Daiki Suzuki is doing with Woolrich Woolen Mills however it was less quirky and retained a very hard nosed outdoor classic American look with some excellent details involved. I don’t see this collection coming to the states anytime soon but keep your eyes open and if you’re overseas best of luck.Visual Treasure Chest: The Haw-Lin

I recently had a chance to discover The Haw-Lin through my good friend and compadre Maxwell Osborne of Public School… The site is an absolute visual treasure chest. Much like JJJJound only this site is similar to JJJJound on steroids. The layout covers the entire screen of images in mood board fashion and the selected photos which are both inspirational and captivating. Seen here is anything from Pendleton packs to Harold Hunter to Pacino, classic landscapes, editorials and much much more. This is my idea of a site utilizing influencing imagery all at fantastic taste level. Check it out and enjoy!
Be back in a week...

Headed to Firenze to see what all this Pitti Uomo hype is about... Will be back in a week with lots of news, views, hooks, looks and more so stay tuned.
Friday Film: Breathless
This montage of Jean-Luc Godard’s timeless film “Breathless” just sets me in the right mood today. Breathless is one of those films that sums up and define’s the French cool of the New Wave era and really shows what classic style is. Godard was a master at creating inspiring images and influencing settings. From Belmondo’s looks to Jean Seberg’s secductive grace… I’m quite the sucker for classic cinema. This montage is done well in capturing the energy of the film matched with the Verve’s “Bittersweet Symphony”. Take some notes on style and enjoy!
Wise Words: Robert Burke
Robert Burke is one of the leading experts and consultants in the fashion industry... A former director at Bergdorf Goodman and a Ralph Lauren University Alum he's definitely a leader within the business of fashion. This video was taken about 30 days ago and is an excellent in-depth view on weathering the current retail storm and where the future lies... From his admiration of Millard "Mickey" Drexler's merchant genius, especially recently at J.Crew, to the new model for department stores and brands themselves this is a great video to watch... Take heed and enjoy!
The Real McCoy's x Taxi Driver

Give it to the Japanese to take the M-65 jacket to the next level. Japanese label "The Real McCoy's" has styled an exact replica of Robert Deniro's M-65 military jacket worn in the film Taxi-Driver. Check out this brand at Superdenim in the UK.
Anywhere Out Of The World...
